WHAT METALS DO YOU USE?

Our pieces are made from various materials, so care instructions may vary depending on your piece. A brief summary of our metals includes: stainless steel, gold filled brass, thick gold plated copper, sterling silver, and thick silver plated copper. Our stainless steel pieces ensure durability both in and out of water. Our wire-wrapped designs feature high-quality, water-resistant wire with a thick silver or gold-plated finish over copper, created through a heavy electroplating process. While not fully waterproof, these pieces are suitable for everyday wear, though we recommend removing them before frequent swimming. Gold-filled jewelry is more durable than gold-plated pieces, but proper care will help maintain its shine and longevity. Check the product description for specific care instructions based on the materials used.

WILL MY WATER RESISTANT, GOLD PLATED PIECES TARNISH?

With proper care and storage (i.e. removing before showering/swimming, and storing in a cool, dry jewellery box or bag), these items won’t tarnish. However, with frequent use or lack of care, the metal’s shine may gradually fade. This is a sign to start removing your jewellery before swimming or showering. Over time, tarnishing will reveal the silver barrier layer beneath the gold plating, and eventually the copper base, but this process takes weeks or months of constant wear. Our “highly water-resistant” pieces won’t lose colour after just a few swims. As a small business, we believe in full transparency, so keep this in mind when choosing your jewellery.

It is also worth noting that rings are typically the fastest to tarnish due to the constant exposure to sweat, oils, soap from washing hands, lotions, and other items you come into contact with throughout the day. Earrings made of the same wire, however, can last much longer with constant wear and zero tarnishing (including swimming and showering in them).

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY JEWELLERY?

Here are some general jewellery care tips, no matter the metal type:

Avoid contact with lotions, perfumes, and other chemicals.

Store in a soft pouch or jewellery box when not in use. Separate items to prevent tangling or scratching and keep dry. Clean gently with a soft cloth.

Caring for your jewellery may look different depending on the metal.

Cleaning Gold-Filled Jewelry:

Mild Soap & Water: Use a few drops of mild dish soap in warm water. Soak for a few minutes, then gently rub with a soft cloth or toothbrush. Rinse and pat dry.
Polishing Cloth: Use a jewelry polishing cloth to restore shine without being too abrasive.
Avoid Harsh Cleaners: No jewelry dips, ultrasonic cleaners, or baking soda scrubs, as these can wear down the gold layer.
